This book talks about animals and how they fall asleep. There are some unsual ways animals get their rest but kids would love to read and learn about. ( )

The book introduces how different animals sleep at night, and why they sleep in a specific location. It is a good book both for children and teachers, as some information may still be useful to learn as an adult. It is suitable for intermediate students because each page has 3-4 sentences of explanation. The words were used are not too hard, but some animal names can be the new words for students to accumulate their vocabularies. It can be used in biology class and reading class. ( )

Review:
In this book, the authors introduce several different kinds of animals. For each animal, they provide fun information about their sleeping habits, many of which are very different from the way humans sleep. At the end of the book, the authors provide more information about each of the animals listed in the books paired with colorful illustrations.
Critique:
This book is an excellent example of an informational text for early readers. The authors in crude bolded words, fact boxes, and colorful illustrations to aid readers as they comprehend the information presented in the text. Additionally, all of the facts given are true while still being presented in language that would be easy for beginning readers to understand.
Use:
1. One way to utilize this book would be during a unit on animal habitats. The teacher can work through the book over the course of the unit, reading only on or two animals per day and then having students brainstorm how an animal's environment impacts their sleeping habits.
2. Another way to utilize this book would be in a lesson on comparing and contrasting. Before reading, students can create an chore chart of what they know about how humans sleep. Then, while reading, Students can both compare and contrast the ways that various animals' sleep patterns are similar or different than people's.

Overall: This book details different ways that animals sleep. Animals include flamingos, green sea turtles, and koalas. Each page highlights a different animal, provides a picture (torn-and-cut paper collage), and tells a short description of how that animal sleep in paragraph form.

Possible science topics:
-animal behavior

Uses/strategies: This book could be used to introduce the purpose of bolded words (finding the topic easily). It could also be used to teach to skim through the pages to find just what you are looking for (for example-- if you are working on a research project).

Informational book text features:
- bolded words (featured animas [important vocabulary] are bolded
- additional information at the end of the book about each animal
- header (the headers in this book aren't quite typical of most informational books, but on each page, there is a creative bolded phrase/header relating to how the animal sleeps)

Time to sleep was an excellent book to introduce animal sleep patterns - like hibernation! It also connects all animals, that we all sleep.
