I really loved Laurell K. Hamilton's early Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series books but I did feel like she lost the thread a bit in the middle of the series. I am glad to say that it seems like she is focusing more on the story line and less on the sex of late which makes the books better in my opinion. I think Anita is a great character and Laurell K. Hamilton can write a great plot but her overly complicated sex scenes can somewhat take away from the book. ( )

I enjoy the Anita Blake series immensely so far. Just finished this one and starting the next in the series. I like how you could read these as stand-alone novels without really missing anything, or read the series in order to get all the snippets about Anita and her powers and her love life and her friends, co-workers, frenemies, and monsters.

She sometimes has misgivings about what she does--Is she one of the monsters, too? She's dating a werewolf and a vampire (long before Twilight) and she kicks ass.

In this book she introduces fairies to her world, which are NOT cute little Tinkerbells. There are multiple monsters to deal with including another Master Vampire and her clutch of minions, a vampire child molester, and a very very nasty fairies who likes to eat naughty children.

I'll give the author a pass on some of her favorite phrases like "completed the ensemble" (almost) every time she describes what someone is wearing. ( )

I have read this book and the ones that come before and after it many times. Each time I start the series again I managed to come up a little shorter then I did the perivious time. I found that each time I would read it I liked it less and less, or at least I like the Anita less and less. I liked the theme and the world and most of the supporting cast just fine, but Anita not as much. I started to notice that Anita doesn't have any flaws. Everything she does she is the best at, everyone wants to be with her, and she never seems to make any mistakes. She is always destined to be queen of whatever comes along. It gets old fast. ( )

I liked this one overall because yay some finally steamy or somewhat steamy scene with Jean Claude and no Richard I like richard and all but he's no Jean Claude, and he's sometimes annoying. but speaking of annoying, I got really annoyed with Anita in this book, I mean real annoyed with the way she acted with Larry, but come on, that was just a little high on the annoyance scale there.
