Life Cycle of a butterfly

I like it, I read it to kids at school and they loved it. Has really cute information about metamorphosis. ( )

This book is definitely not something I would put in a library in my classroom. There’s nothing that sticks out to me that is special about this book, but there are good and bad aspects of it, like every book. First, I’ll start with a positive; the descriptions. I like the way the book is so informative and have basic information, like the fact that butterfly’s have eggs, and that eventually those little eggs will be catipillars, and then turn into a butterfly. However, with that being said, there is nothing special about the writing itself. It doesn’t flow at all, and there doesn’t seem to be any structure. It’s not something I could proudly read aloud to my students. For example, on one page it says “My old skin falls away. I am soft inside. I am a pupa”. I don’t like how it sounds when I read it aloud, or even in my head. Lastly, there are some words that show the pronunciation next to it, but some don’t, which throws me off. Words like pupa has a pronunciation but words like Chrysalis are not. This book has it’s advantages in teach students about butterflies and the different stages of development they go through, but there are better books out there that will do the same and then some. I would not recommend this book. ( )
