Family & Relationships. Nature. Self-Improvement. Nonfiction. The Nature Principle presents a compelling case that a conscious reconnection to nature can make us whole again and that the future will belong to nature-smart individuals, families, businesses, and communities. Supported by evidence from emerging empirical and theoretical research and eye-opening anecdotes, Louv shows that when we tap into the restorative powers of the natural world we can boost mental acuity and creativity, heal illness, increase immunity, broaden our compassion, and strengthen human bonds. As he says in his introduction, The Nature Principle is "about the power of living in nature-not with it, but in it. The twenty-first century will be the century of human restoration in the natural world.".… (mere)

Though it took a while to really get into it, I loved the book. Great ideas and well supported. ( )

Gave up on it because I just wasn't finding the arguments or evidence compelling. Too much hand-waving and "studies have shown...". I suspected as much when I bought it; sadly I was right. ( )

Following up Last Child in the Woods, Richard Louv has written a book for those of us who have grown up and remember what it was like to freely roam outdoors, unsupervised, until the street lamps came on. Somehow in the decades since our own childhoods we seem to have forgotten how important a connection to nature is. Using a basis of solid research, Louv shows exactly why we still need this connection. He breaks down the studies, augments them with personal experience, and describes exactly how nature can aid us physically, emotionally, psychologically, socially, and even economically. At my reading the book is already a few years old, so some of the research may already be outdted, but the message is still an important one. Now excuse me while I go for a walk in the woods. ( )
