Can Jessica live without Elizabeth?
Sweet Valley is stunned by the news: beautiful young Elizabeth Wakefield is in a coma after a terrible motorcycle accident. Everyone waits with bated breath for any change in her condition, especially Elizabeth's boyfriend Todd, who was driving when accident happened.
But there is no one more upset than Elizabeth's twin, Jessica. She keeps watch over unconscious body of her sister, desperately hoping she'll recover. What if Elizabeth never wakes up? Or worse...what if Elizabeth wakes up changed?

This is basically the classic Sweet Valley High book. In which Liz is in a coma *gasp!* because she disobeyed her parents and rode on Todd's motorcycle.

Actually, she's only in a coma for the very beginning of the book. After that, she's busy parading around Sweet Valley acting like Jessica on Viagra. She tries to steal pretty much everyone's boyfriend, even her precious Enid's George, and ignores Todd completely. (To be fair, the latter is no real indicator of a head injury, because he is extraordinarily dull.)

Of course, the most famous scene is the one where she lets Bruce feel her up a little. Bruce is big on the dub-con in this one. He's always trying to fill Liz with enough wine to lure her into his bed and, let's face it, it's basically impossible to give informed consent to sex while suffering from a personality-changing head injury anyway.

This is also one of the many books where Todd gets punch-happy. He knocks Bruce out cold, which seems a bit stupid given that the Patmans probably have 137 lawyers on retainer at any given point in time.

Most importantly, this is one of the few books where Liz is genuinely interesting—and it's because she's not acting like herself for most of the book!

Moral of the Story? Riding motorbikes may lead to being groped by Bruce Patman*

Key Characters: Elizabeth, Jessica, Todd and Changling-Elizabeth.

* Unfortunately, this result is not guaranteed.

There's good news and bad news...

The good news: Lovely Liz is no longer in that pesky coma that was caused by a single act of disobedience. (She rode on the back of boyfriend Todd's motorcycle of death against her parents' explicit wishes.)

The bad news: Liz has experienced a dramatic personality switcheroo, becoming more like her slutty twin Jessica.

In fact, Liz "out-Jessica's" Jessica. She dumps steadfast beau Todd Wilkins, goes on a boyfriend-stealing rampage, publishes false gossip and plagiarizes a paper. Yikes!

She even sneaks out to hang with grody Bruce Patman, letting him touch her *gasp* breast. Luckily for her (and unluckily for me because I was looking for a more exciting plot), she hits her head on a coffee table and comes to her senses before she does anything too dirty. She's back to her old self faster than you can say "Perfect Size 6!" ( )
