Reject the diet mentality that thrives on restrictions and deprivation. Learn how to lose and manage weight with simple, livable steps. Not a day goes by that the average American doesn't think about weight. Yet the weight epidemic continues to grow. Today there are more obese individuals than those who are merely overweight. So what's wrong? In Full, celebrated bariatric surgeon Michael Snyder offers an insider's perspective on weight loss: it's not the surgery that creates success in his patients, it's what they do afterward that counts! Using the science of fullness and introducing a new definition of healthy, he brings us powerful weight-control tools that are rooted in our physiology and proves that the undeniable feeling of fullness is the ultimate secret in the quest for weight loss - if you know how to effortlessly reach it without breaking the calorie bank or fighting your emotions. In Full, you will learn how to: - Choose from a variety of practical strategies to achieve sustainable weight loss no matter what kind of foods you like to eat. - End the confusion over portion control by synching visual and physiological cues of fullness. - Be full with less food but equally as satisfied (if not more so!). - Apply a cheat prescription so you can still say yes to indulgences and temptations without feeling like a failure. - Take advantage of the five intentional steps of digestion to gain natural control of how-and how much-you eat. - Find fulfillment in a physical activity that is inexpensive, easy, and convenient. With Dr. Snyder's rich body of experience and techniques, and these new strategies and definitions, you will move from self-hatred to self-understanding, from persistent dieting to living true to yourself, and from being unhappily overweight to being a healthy individual who knows a happy weight better than a scale does.… (mere)

For anyone who seriously wants to change their eating habits, this book can be helpful in a practical way. Approached from a scientific aspect, the contents may be a bit more than the casual reader can digest, but for those who paid attention in science and biology classes, it makes sense. Unfortunately, someone borrowed the book before I was almost at the end, so this review won't be complete since the book never reappeared. In our food obsessed culture, A Life Without Dieting is something to aspire to. The information is useable and applicable - but this is NOT a quick fix for being overweight, rather it's a pragmatic look at how one's body works and why the body does what it does with the food you eat. The author does a pretty good job of keeping your interested in a topic that could get pretty long in the mouth for most. While many of the things that are stated in the book are common knowlege, some of the ideas make you wonder why you had never thought of them before. It's a good book to get your mind around why we have such a hard time with food and what we can do to help ourselves. ( )

This is a wonderful "diet book" that will have you thinking about your diet and weight as never before. Dr. Snyder is a bariatric surgeon who has done more than 2700 procedures as of the writing of his book. He has a unique way of looking at dieting (unique in that we do not seem to consider his strategies when we go n a diet. Maybe one or two but never the complete and easy methods he presents). Actually, Dr. Snyder does not call his methods dieting, though you could very well lose 100 or more pounds trying his methods.

The main ideas are very simplistic: watch portion sizes and stop eating when full. I know, I said it too, "Duh!" Keep reading and the wisdom in his "madness" shines. First, the good doctor explains why dieting is simply a myth. One reason, which does make sense, is diets themselves keeping you on a diet. He claims that dieting plans are a myth not designed to help you lose weight for any great length of time, and thus they are the enemy in losing weight, not food. Dr. Snyder does an excellent job discussing the anatomy of the stomach, never getting boring or dry. Bariatic patients can only eat a small amount at a time because they have very little stomach left to fill. Dr. Snyder states how to use the same strategies, minus the band.

This book is engrossing, engaging, and enlightening. Dr. Snyder factsare based in science and observation of his patients, not commerce. Included are exercises and tools to get you started correctly. He explains why weight returns with diets and how to keep the pounds off forever. Dr. Snyder is well-respected and most logical. In layman terms he explains how to lose weight that is sustainable. You could actually start your new eating habits before you finish the book. Finish the book first. Trust me, you will not put this one down until the last page is turned.

FULL: A Life Without Dieting is the result of Synder's research into the subject of dieting and sustaining weight loss. This book offers a new approach to the subject of dieting and, once read and understood, it can prevent die-hard dieters from ever considering dieting again.

To my patients, who teach me every day about the wonders of the body as well as the practical secrets to successful weight loss. Their stories, struggles, and experiences are what challenge me to be a better physician; and their faith in me inspires me to be a better person. I feel honored that they trust me to take care of them and enlist me as a partner in their health and their lives. Without their insights, integrity and courage, this book would not be possible.

I also dedicate this book to those who have grappled with weight issues. I am constantly reminded that virtually everyone struggles with weight, and, in the grander picture with self-confidence and happiness. This book is for you.
