Most American teenagers want a vacation in Italy, but the Bentarrini sisters have spent every summer of their lives with their parents, famed Etruscan scholars, among the romantic hills. Stuck among the rubble of medieval castles in rural Tuscany on yet another hot, dusty archeological site, Gabi and Lia are bored out of their minds-- until Gabi places her hand atop a handprint in an ancient tomb and finds herself in fourteenth-century Italy. And worse yet, in the middle of a fierce battle between knights of two opposing forces. And thus does she come to be rescued by the knight-prince Marcello Falassi, who takes her back to his father's castle--a castle Gabi has seen in ruins in another life. Suddenly Gabi's summer in Italy is much, much more interesting. But what do you do when your knight in shining armor lives, literally, in a different world?… (mere)

River of Time is a fast-paced romance that transcends time. Gabriella and Marcello have responsibilities and needs they know will keep them apart, yet they desire to be together. A girl from the 21st century and a boy from the 14th century should never have met, yet they did. Gabriella needs to find her sister so they can go back to their mother in 21st century Italy. Marcello is betrothed and the heir to his father's Castello in Medieval Italy. The young would be lovers spend the entirety of the book fighting their desires, knowing they are in love, yet unable to do anything about it. By the end of the book, they realize they will do whatever it takes to be together, yet events conspire to keep them apart. They must decide if God has ordained them to be together or if they are destined to love and lose. ( )

I always love a good time travel book! This one is like Outlander for teens. Gabi is a strong current day female who time travels to the medieval times with her younger sister. She meets a handsome soon to be Lord and causes all sort of trouble along with falling in love. She has a difficult time adjusting to the time period and stands out for being a strong minded woman. The only think I felt didn't really fit was how well the two young girls handled being in battle. I don't see how learning fencing from your father would benefit you THAT much in medieval battles, especially to the point where she saves actual knights repeatedly. I am excited to continue with the series though to see where it goes from here! ( )

Okay. I really loved the setting, but the characters were a bit one dimensional. I'd hoped for great character growth and a surprise romance, but got a paint by numbers plot: Villain: mean, manipulative, and gross; Love Interest: hottest, strong, and powerful; Main Character: super hot (at least for the time), super strong, and always morally right. What in the world did I just read??

Nothing I mean nothing about this book was what I expected.. I thought this was going to be a good YA novel..but, nothing about this book was just silly. Plain right crazy. The plot was so make believe this book gave Fiction a run for its money. You might like it.. Try it .. Don't take my word for it.. I left this book like:

Absolutely gorgeous. I'm totally in love with the book!

Waterfall was nothing like I expected. I was prepared to read somewhat watered down, rosy, time-travel YA with a cutesy and clumsy main heroine.

Hah! I say, hah!

Down and dirty, gritty and atmospheric with a more than capable heroine. She can fence! She can heal! She scales the walls! Oh, man... I was in heaven.

This very much reminded me of The Outlander, and I truly can't wait to read more about Gabriella and her younger sister (who is an archer!), Lia.

Even the men in this book are interesting, Marcello and his learned but sickly older brother, Luca - Marcello's cheerful, cheeky second in command. The love line is a bit overdramatic and very troubadour-ish, and historically I had to suspend my disbelief in many places, however the writing itself outshines all the flaws.

I love Renaissance, and here is the story which I'm not very familiar with about two Italian city-states Florence and Siena, and their political battle against each other.

17 year-old Gabi and her 15 year old sister Lia came to Italy with their mother who is an archaeologist researching old Etruscan burial sites. Bored out of her mind Gabi sneaks into one of the tombs with Lia and they both touch certain stones on the wall at the same time, which transfers them back in time. Way back to the 14th century.

And that's where all the fun starts. Which I'm not telling you about.

Suffice to say there is plenty of excitement. And now because of this book I have another Italian town on my MUST SEE before I die list, - Siena. ( )
