I enjoyed reading "A Bright New Morning: An American Story by Phil Mitchell. It was as easy read and contained much detail pertinent to the story. I just wish that it had been a longer story. It kept my interest the entire time.

I did not enjoy this book. Maybe it was because it was non fiction but I usally like or dont mind reading non fiction. This book was very boring and it was confusing and just going off in tangents. I wouldnt recomend it. ( )

I would have to agree with aethercowboy. It just seemed like a bunch of unfinished thoughts jumbled together. I couldn't even finish reading the book. ( )

"A Bright New Morning: An American Story" by Phil Mitchell was okay...bringing a patriotic message, Mitchell discusses, throughout the book, his home state of Chicago, his beginnings, and the people that he has met while working as a trolley driver. While his message was important, to be honest, I did have some difficulties while trying to complete this book. Aside from the grammatical errors, Mitchell never fully completes any thought he brings up...many parts are scattered around, and even though some points that are presented hold validity, they are not completely explained.
Mitchell also relays to the reader that he is a musician, and he has written songs that relate to the message that he is desperately trying to spread, that it's time for America to come back together, and we all need to work in unity to achieve this goal. His music does support his effort...I previewed the songs that were on his album, "America" at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/philmitchellband2, and they were pretty good.
Overall, Mitchell has a strong message, a message that needs to be heard. And, should he decide to re-publish his book, I would strongly suggest an in-depth revision to tie up any loose ends that are still hanging. If he decides to go that route, I believe the revised copy along with his album will get him steps closer to the goal in which he is trying to acheive.
I give it 3 stars(the book was okay, but his music bumped the stars up a notch.) ( )

I'm not exactly sure what A Bright New Morning was really about. The author, Phil Mitchell, went off on several tangents, mostly pertaining to the "good old days" of America, and how we need to be united, and need to see the light of God.

While Mitchell has some good points in his book, he does a lousy job of supporting them or making all of them clear. To many, this book may read more like random ramblings on whatever came into his mind at the time. At least, it did to me.

The book could stand to have some SERIOUS copy editing, and could use some doctoring to its prose. It needs something to make it flow better. Otherwise, it just reads like one isolated thought after another.

I'd recommend passing on this book, as there are plenty of other inspirational, religious-themed books on American patriotism out there, especially more readable ones. ( )

I was always a quiet man when things were placed in my heart. How could I explain it or say how they came about? The love for my country grew as I shared my land with so many people. But always, I thought of the lighted path ahead and what it meant. I somehow felt called to do something more and bring about hope; not to just let it all drift away.

The American spirit is more than just flags and celebrations. It is about the people of different cultures that came together to build this nation. It is about "building" a place in society or making a mark. The spirit is about the beauty that we see, not only in the land, but in the beauty of the people that live on the land.

"Dreams are what keep us growing. They are what keep us alive. To give up, is to let our dreams die."

"Freedom is more than just a willingness to live; it is a force that binds us all. Being truly free is seeing America as our "heart and home." Uniting around a common good will help bring us together in true happiness into the future"
