It used to be one of my favorites. Usually when I like a movie this much, it gets better with every viewing, but this one seems to get a little worse every time. There's no subtlety; what you get is just what's there on the surface. Still awesome, though. Concept: A Story: B Characters: B Dialog: B Pacing: A Cinematography: C Special effects/design: B Acting: B Music: D Enjoyment: A GPA: 3.0/4 Of all the Star Trek films, this is by far my favorite--and I'm not alone in that. Obviously, something the power that be have made note of, since they ripped it off twice--once for Next Generation characters in Nemesis and even more blatantly for the Reboot characters in Into the Darkness. After the misfire that was Star Trek: The Motion Picture it's hard not to see this as the real first film. Each of the old characters is handled with respect and affection, Saavik is a wonderful addition, and this film did make me cry--something films rarely do. It is the 23rd century. The Federation Starship U.S.S. Enterprise™ is on routine training maneuvers and Admiral James T. Kirk (William Shatner) seems resigned to the fact that this inspection may well be the last space mission of his career. But Khan is back. Aided by his exiled band of genetic supermen, Khan (Ricardo Montalban) - brilliant renegade of 20th century Earth - has raided Space Station Regula One, stolen a top secret device called Project Genesis, wrested control of another Federation Starship and sets out in pursuit of the Enterprise, determined to let nothing stand in the way of his mission: kill Admiral Kirk... even if it means universal Armageddon.
