Work InformationThe Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation, 20th Edition af Harvard Law Review (Author)
![]() Ingen Der er ingen diskussionstråde på Snak om denne bog. ![]() ![]() The Bluebook is excellent for actual technical legal material (opinions, bills, briefs, etcetc.) in which a large number of different types of legal documents routinely need to be referred to and differentiated from one another, and should never, ever be used otherwise (although it too often is, for example in academic papers on law-related topics that do not get technical, like this one I've been editing on the state of legal education in Japan in which only a handful of laws are even mentioned but where I still have to follow all the Bluebook's weird, counterintuitive referencing and formatting requirements--or did, until the author was like fuckit dude, I hate this too let's just submit it as is. He has a good attitude and I wish him good luck with his submission!).
The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation exemplifies hypertrophy in the anthropological sense. It is a monstrous growth, remote from the functional need for legal citation forms, that serves obscure needs of the legal culture and its student subculture. ... I am put in mind of Mr. Kurtz’s dying words in Heart of Darkness—"The horror! The horror!"—and am tempted to end there."
"This edition of The Bluebook retains the same basic approach to legal citation established by its predecessors. The layout of the Bluebook has been updated to make the information easier to access. Some citation forms have been expanded, elaborated upon, or modified from previous editions to reflect the ever-expanding range of authorities used in legal writing and to respond to suggestions from the legal community."--Preface.
