Energy Island starts with a community located in a Danish Island, Samso, that comes together to start energy projects to work towards the goal of a renewable resource-based island to save energy. Additionally, the community of Samso considers renewable resources after a windstorm impacts their island that affected their access to nonrenewable resources. The community then slowly shifts towards renewable resources to improve the environment and to conserve energy using renewable resources such as wind turbines for electricity. This book highlights the importance of teamwork as the town came together to implement wind energy. It seems as if the author of the book, Allan Drummond, wants the main focus of the readers to come together as an “island” to help improve the environment of the Earth. Additionally, the book contains side notes containing background factual information for the young reader to retrieve a more in-depth explanation of the topics covered within this book. This book is a great read towards young readers and even middle school children to connect towards science content subjects by teaching the types and usage of nonrenewable and renewable resources and their impact on the environment. ( ) This story for second through fourth graders is a great book about energy, and would be perfect for a science class. This book is about an island that solely relies on renewable energy. Because this island is known for running on renewable energy, it is full of tourists. This would be a great book to include in class whenever the topic of energy resources is being discussed. This book tells of Samso, Denmark, an island that learned to use energy from the wind to reduce their carbon footprint. I gave this book 5 stars because not only was it an interesting book, but also on the side of some of the pages, there was an explanation of energy and how it worked. This book could easily be used in a science classroom to help explain renewable energy. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
