Storynory.com makes available hundreds of audio stories for streaming or download, as well as providing the associated text in order for users to read along. While the site itself does not have a particularly sophisticated design, it is easily navigable through a genre and age menu provided at the top of the page. Fairy tales, classic stories, and original fiction are all provided. The site also provides news and tips about using their weekly stories. The audio of the stories is typically recorded by one employee – Natasha Gostwick – whose training in speech and drama is evident in the expressive way in which she reads. Storynory could be useful both in the classroom as teaching tools for reading as well as in the home for regular distraction or enrichment for children. This resource is highly recommended for public libraries, daycares, and elementary media centers. ( ) Storynory is a collection of free audio stories for children. Many of the selections are adaptations of fairy tales, folk tales and traditional stories from around the world, though there are also a number of Storynory originals available. The stories are mostly written at a level and about subjects that would be most appropriate for intermediate readers, or mid to upper-elementary schoolers. Like many other digital book sites designed for children, Storynory makes use of bright, fun colors and lots of graphics, although it does seem cleaner than sites like Starfall. This may be due to it's slightly older audience. The artwork, though that of amateurs, is of good quality and fits the stories. Storynory is likewise intuitive in its design, but relies more on text than other sites like it. Additionally, Storynory can be used by ESL students to learn or improve upon their English. Full text of every story is available in English, and users need only double click on a word to access its translation in a number of different languages. Storynory is an excellent example of how podcasts can be used to tell stories to children of all ages. These stories can be easily downloaded on to an iPod or mp3 player, giving children hours of storytelling fun whenever and wherever they want to hear a story. The auditory nature of the podcast also encourages listeners to think more creatively as they imagine the visuals to accompany what they hear. Principle reader, Natasha Gostwick, uses her calm, pure voice and skillful storytelling technique to hold the attention of eager listeners. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
