Not as good as the first book. Anne and Rhys are married when Rhys discovers the truth of his paternity. This is a huge deal because Rhys is a Duke and he would lose his stature and everything important to him as a result of his paternity. Rhys learns this as soon as he is back from his honeymoon and he leaves to collect himself. Anne, his wife, follows him and their marriage really starts as she works to become closer to him and understand what his secret is.

I'm not a huge fan of books where the couple is already married because I feel you lose a lot of the backstory and important events as they learn about each other. That being said, I thought the premise of this book had a lot of promise. Unfortunately, I wanted to give Rhys a good shake and make him face reality for most of the book. He wasn't a very likable character to me until the very end. I wish more of his transition had been shown. I really liked Anne but I wish she had a little more pride in herself. There's a point where she just needed to draw a line in the sand instead of trying to do everything to keep Rhys.

An interesting book but suffered from some character challenges that limited my enjoyment. ( )
