There are two books that I regularly hear recommended in combination. Those two books are The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy and The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson. While at the local Barnes and Noble, I happened to see The Compound Effect on the shelf and decided to pick it up. I am really glad I did. The Compound Effect gave me the right advice to get the new year going. Read more ( )

just another self-help book.

who doesn't know a small amount of money saved goes a long way to help in compounding. similarly, who doesn't know a small amount of effort always help?

There is a lack of compelling examples and the title of this book is pretty self-explanatory and what was written did not add any significant insights or tips to what I already know. ( )

I read this at the recommendation of someone I respect. But honestly, that person is far more inspirational than Mr. Hardy, who truth-to-tell, seems like such a Robbins knock-off that he makes my teeth itch. So much namedropping.

The thing that really galls me about this genre of self-help books is how all of these guys are talking about personal development, and using as proof, acquisition of material goods. How to make more money, how to get a bigger house, a better car, yada yada yada. They could be, or do, so much more, if they could take a step sideways out of the corporatist merry-go-round. But nope. It's just a repetitive circle of chest-thumping sales-bro-ism. And it's tedious.

Gonna go read something by Tim De Christopher to cleanse my palate. ( )
