Teen fiction; post-apocalyptic dystopia action/romance (more action than romance, but this is only the first of the series). Awesome, and gritty enough to satisfy boys as well as girls (battle wounds! dark sides of humanity!)--would definitely recommend to Hunger Games fans. ( )

Driving plot and exciting action for the genre.

Unfortunately, it sends the wrong message to teens, especially girls. Basically, this book says that in order to preserve humanity in a post-apocalyptic world, it's justifiable to rape, abuse, and enslave women (of course, this all takes place off-stage because of the genre), and even upon a return to civilization, the perpertrators, especially the leaders (Stalker, in this book), are not brought to justice--and they are even forgiven by the main character, Deuce, who knows what he did, just because he's a strong warrior like her.

There are better and more positive books to spend your precious time on.

This book did end upon their return to civilization and I read the first 20 - 30 pages of the next book, but it failed to resolve this message to my moral satisfaction and, in fact, only threw in more rationalizations by the main character for the former gang leader's abuses. Furthermore, the conscience of the group (and victim), Tegan, is rationalized away unlike Ralph in [b:Lord of the Flies|7624|Lord of the Flies|William Golding|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1327869409s/7624.jpg|2766512]:The officer nodded helpfully.
“I know. Jolly good show. Like the Coral Island.”
Ralph looked at him dumbly. For a moment he had a fleeting picture of the strange glamour that had once invested the beaches. But the island was scorched up like dead wood—Simon was dead—and Jack had.... The tears began to flow and sobs shook him. He gave himself up to them now for the first time on the island; great, shuddering spasms of grief that seemed to wrench his whole body. His voice rose under the black smoke before the burning wreckage of the island; and infected by that emotion, the other little boys began to shake and sob too. And in the middle of them, with filthy body, matted hair, and unwiped nose, Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man’s heart, and the fall through the air of the true, wise friend called Piggy.Although this series continues on (and I see that Tegan makes it to the final book), this theme shouldn't be left to fester so long.

Golding already established the standard. Publishers, particularly in YA, need to wake up and stop feeding us this kind of socially debilitating message.

Somehow my rating and review for this book was lost. Since I read it years ago, my review isn't going to be as detailed as before.

I remember liking the book and it was an easy read. I did like the main character, she wasn't annoying at all. She's strong and a fighter. I like the direction the book took and seeing the journey and the hardships that Deuce gets past.

I remember where the book left off and I liked it, it was a good ending and a good way to start the next book.

There is tons of young adult dystopian novels out these days and if anybody is looking for something new to read, I would pick this one. ( )

In a post-apocalyptic world, humans live in collective enclaves in old subway tunnels. Deuce, a recently named huntress, finds herself paired with Fade, who while a great hunter, isn’t part of the College clan having appeared there years ago. When the two leave their assigned post and find a child who warns them that Nassau, the next colony over, has been overrun by Freaks, they find themselves send on a suicide reconnaissance mission. But, no one believes their report. When Deuce’s friend, Stone, a Breeder, is accused of hoarding and about to be exiled, she and Fade step forward taking blame and receiving the exile to the Toplands. Once above ground, Fade and Deuce must battle gangs and Freaks to survive long enough to find a northern colony his father has told him about. ( )

This one was just too YA for me.

Well-written and well-conceived but too noisy with teen emotions. This was probably amplified by the "I must emote every sentence at full volume" approach of the audiobook narrator.

After ninety minutes I decided it was a DNF. ( )

With some graphic and gross imagery and a hard look at a post-apocalyptic world, Aguirre has taken themes from Scott Westerfeld and an assortment of zombie literature and created something that is very much her own — and a very engaging read.

Enclave is an impressive addition to the growing collection of dystopian young adult novels

All in all, this well-paced zombie-esque adventure in an urban wasteland will keep fans happy

. . . skilled though violent postapocalyptic thriller. . . Aguirre has created a gritty and highly competent heroine, an equally deadly sidekick/love interest, and a fascinating if unpleasant civilization. This series is likely to hold Considerable appeal for fans of The Hunger Games.
