- Arethusa has been an out-of-print and antiquarian book seller in downtown New Haven since 1988. Our specialities lie in art, photography and architecture; modern literature; printing and typography; ancient history and languages; philosophy and the history of science; children's and illustrated books. Yet we always have something new in other fields which interest or excite us, and while they typically have scholarly appeal, such as map-making, Japanese gardens, or Renaissance history, we will not resist carrying uncommon books on hats, for example, or islands, or, an old favorite, fountains and water-works.
About 5,000 titles can be viewed at our shop by appointment. Many of them are catalogued on-line, but you should always contact us for books you are seeking, as some of ours may not at a given moment be listed. We are always forming specific collections for our customers, and many books, as they arrive, are quoted directly to those who make requests to us by title, author or category.
