- History & Location
St.Vital Library is located across the street from the South Branch YM-YWCA and close to the intersection of Fermor Avenue and St. Mary's Road. The first St. Vital Library operated from a small rented quarters near the junction of St. Mary's and St. Anne's Roads. In 1961, the City of St. Vital sold the present site to the Library Board for one dollar. The library at its present location was opened in 1963. The unusual shape of the property resulted in the construction of a circular building with a linear extension. The interior features a mezzanine, wood roof members, a natural wood deck and skylights in both the east and west sides of the building. The main floor of the building offers 7000 square feet as does the basement. The mezzanine floor provides 1800 square feet of floor area.
