- The Commercial Press is the longest-standing modern publishing house in China, founded in 1897 on the principle of fostering cultural enhancement and intellectual enlightenment.
The Hong Kong branch of The Commercial Press was established in 1914 as a retail business, but soon after became a fully integrated publishing house producing textbooks for Hong Kong and Southeast Asian schools. Publications include dictionaries of Chinese and other languages, pictorial books on history and culture and books on the humanities and social sciences.
The Retail Department operates the largest comprehensive bookstore chain in Hong Kong, with a total of 1.8 million visits by customers per month to its 15 retail shops (including a university bookstore).
