- On July 30th, 1936, the Courtenay library became “UNION LIBRARY” with Headquarters at Nanaimo. Later in 1951 the name was changed to the present “Courtenay Branch of the Vancouver Island Regional Library”. The library branch moved to its current location in 2001. The branch’s striking architecture has made it a popular downtown attraction.
