We can list favorite illustrators too.
I LOVE Trina Schart Hyman!

I was also mentioning the animated film Hoodwinked! to a co-workers today.

I agree, Trina Schart Hyman is possibly my favorite illustrator ever.

As for Little Red Riding Hood retellings, I know I read one a while back . . . Scarlet Moon by Debbie Viguié. It's from the Simon Pulse "Once Upon a Time" series. Like most of that series, I found it all right, but not fantastic.

Here's another Trina Schart Hyman fan! I love her Snow White the best.
On Red Riding Hood, I saw recently the book Red Riding Hood by Sarah Blakeley-Cartwright, which is actually a novelization of the film coming out soon directed by Catherine Hardwicke, starring Amanda Seyfried. I thought the book looked interesting, but apparently it ends with a HUGE cliffhanger (i.e. the book's practically unfinished)...

Sorry, touchstones aren't working.

Looks like the creators of the Twilight movies are making their own rendition of Little Red Riding Hood with Red Riding Hood. I'll admit, I'm none-too thrilled. From what I could tell from the preview I saw at the theater - when seeing "Deathly Hollows: Part 1" - it's just going to be another teen "forbidden love" movie.

Just wanted to provide a nod to another animated movie that features the tale of Little Red Riding Hood in its more original form of Rotkäppchen (Red Cap). Jin-Roh (The Wolf Brigade) is probably my favourite anime movie and features highly in my list of favourite movies of all time. I'd recommend it to anyone but if you take a look at the promotional items you might be fooled into thinking this is an action movie. It isn't and there is quite a lot of introspection in the middle part which slows things down considerably.

For loads of versions of Little Red Riding Hood I'd recommend The Trials and Tribulations of Little Red Riding Hood by Jack Zipes. Also has an interesting scholarly essay about the history of the story.

Hmmmm, I'd never heard of Jack Zipes. But apparently, he is the go-to guy on fairytales, myths and legends nowadays. I ordered two of his books from the library including the one you mentioned. Thanks

I've been doing a module this term called 'The Lives of Stories' and we've referred to Zipes a lot.
I'd also strongly recommend Marina Warner. {No Go the Bogeyman and From the Beast to the Blonde are fascinating. She's also done quite a bit of fiction, though i haven't read much.

Little Red Riding Hood Uncloaked is also an interesting read, a history of Red Riding Hood in history and pop culture.

For a totally different audience, Little red riding wolf always makes me laugh.

I've just finished reading The Trials and Tribulations of Little Red Riding Hood by Jack Zipes. The author has collected 31 versions of the tale, from 1697 to 1979, and prefaces them with an essay about the sociocultural context they were written in.

A fun aside on Little Red Riding Hood is an educational and entertaining article speculating on how stories would be rewritten if half our vocabulary was taken away. Try googling Ladle Rat Rotten Hut by Howard L. Chace.
