Does anyone have recommendations on specific brand of MP3 player which will be compatible with the Overdrive Media Console utilized by most digital libraries? Overdrive uses WMA Audiobooks format and Overdrive WMA Music format. Help, I have already bought a Philips device that didn't work. I wanted to be able to get the free on loan titles from the NC digital Library.

I'd double check the compatible devices list sqdancer gave you, but I think you'd be pretty safe going with almost any mp3 player from Creative or Sandisk.

I am using a Sansa Clip 1GB. It works perfectly with Overdrive. I have 3 books from Overdrive on the Sansa Clip now: Agent Zigzag, Nothing to Fear, Retribution, and a portion of Understanding the Fundamentals of Music. I still have 123MB free

Does anyone know how frequently the listing on overdrive are listed? It seems
to be weeks before something new comes on. I don't know if this varies from library member to library.

^ I'd imagine it varies from library to library. If the library is part of a state/province/area consortium, that may limit the new offerings or frequency of new offerings if they purchase in batches, for example.

7: Yes, it varies from library to library. I'm lucky that our library updates very frequently.

I have a Sansa Clip 4GB that works great with Overdrive.

The only *problem* is that books don't expire automatically on the device, so *theoretically* I could still listen to an audiobook after my checkout time is up. Not that I would ever do that, of course.

My library seems to do a large batch every month (I think?) - it'd be terrific if an acquisitions librarian could comment on this stuff for us!

Perhaps, this is a good time to mention an Overdrive tip I stumbled upon ...

If you'd prefer your books (esp long ones) in a single, distinct folder, create (an empty) one on your player (say "War" for "War and Peace"). Then, when transferring the book, use the Advanced Options setting to send the files directly into that folder, rather than loose on your player.

I have two older players (1 GB each) with non-expiring books as well. Like you, I'm scrupulously honest, and wouldn't ever think "Hmmm ... that looks good, but I don't want to read it just now so I'll load onto a player for storage"!
