Hi everyone! I'm quite new to this group and Im pretty sure no one else has posted this, so here it goes! I have been vegetarian by whole life but resently stopped eating eggs. I was wondering if you guys have any good eggless dessert ideas. I always try to make my desserts without egg substituting it with oil, but it does not turn out the same. Well I mean ofcourse not the same but it doesn't have the moist taste and is more oily. Hopefully you guys can help me out!

What sort of desserts are you looking for? Peanut butter cups are easy and delicious ( (add some peanut butter to the chocolate and a bit of vanilla to the peanut butter for maximum awesomeness), rice crispy treats (especially with peanut butter and chocolate chips... can you tell I like those together?) are tasty and easy (, I recently discovered these awe-inspiring cupcakes (, and these amazing (peanut butter and chocolate again) cookies (, and apple pie is simple vegan (

I don't know what kind of desserts you are looking for either - my desserts are usually without eggs anyway. Yogurt, possibly with fruit, nuts and/or honey is eggless. Fruit salad is too, and fruit crumbles.

If you are going to replace eggs in recipes, oil does not sound like a good replacement to me. I've heard tofu gives good results, but I have to admit I've never actually tried it.

In most recipes you can just omit the egg and use a little extra baking powder. You can also try the commercial Ener-G egg replacer, or 1 tbsp garbanzo bean flour, flax seed meal, or soy flour mixed with 1 tbsp water for each egg.

There are a million books on vegan baking out there. These are some of my favorites: The Joy of Vegan Baking, Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World, Hot Damn and Hell Yeah, Sinfully Vegan.

I've had very good luck using whipped tofu as a sub for eggs. The refrigerated tofu doesn't work too well, for this but the stuff that sits on the shelf works great. One tbsp of whipped tofu is roughly equivalent to 1 egg.

I must agree with quilted_kat, those books are great. You might also read The Voluptuous Vegan. If you like pie, you will LOVE her coconut crust. I can't say enough good about that book.

The thing about eggs is that they serve a whole bunch of different functions, so different functions require different substitutions. Oil works if the egg is only serving to moisten, but they can also serve as leavener, binder, thickener, etc.

This is not quite dessert, but can be! Check out the site for a bunch of waffle recipes, all vegan. I've made the naked vegan waffles a bunch of times and they are sooooo delicious.
