Reading Groups and Iris Murdoch

mar 10, 2010, 10:35 am

Hi all!

I hope it's OK to post this here - I am posting it to a few groups, which is why I am concerned people might think I'm spamming...

Anyway. I started a small reading group to discuss the novels of Iris Murdoch; we're reading them in chronological order of publication. I have read a few books about reading groups, and it struck me that there might be some mileage in looking at reading groups and Iris Murdoch, especially as a lot of the groups I know of seem to concentrate on newly published books.

So at the moment I'm casting around to see if I can find some reading groups that could answer some questions for me.

If you're a member of a reading group, or run one, whether private, public, library, bookshop, online or face-to-face....

1. have you read any Iris Murdoch books?

2. would you be interested in trying out one in the group and reporting how you found it?

There will of course be more questions than this once I've put the study together, but I just need to see if it's feasible first!

Many thanks for reading - please contact me by replying here or on my profile if you would like to discuss further / take part / have any questions.

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone is interested in helping me with this. I have info on my research at and am blogging about the research at

I have quite a few book groups already so this research will definitely be going ahead, but I would like more!

Thanks for reading,

Hi, I'm an Iris Murdoch reader and have been looking for others who have read quite a few of her books. I'll look up your blog and see what you are doing. I'd love to talk about these books.

Hello! Groups that are inactive over 12-18 months are now in danger of getting archived, meaning that posting in them becomes impossible.

It would be a pity to lose the valuable discussions in this group. There's very little chance they'd ever be recreated elsewhere.
