I was just interested if anyone has read the River God by Wilbur Smith and what their thoughts were of it. Personally I couldn't even get through 100 pages. I was a bit disappointed as I was looking forward to reading a novel set in one of my favourite periods in history. Thanks!

Never heard of it. What time period is it set in?

It is set in Ancient Egypt.

I read it. I thought the writing was slow and didn't flow. I have the other books in the series, but other than The Seventh Scroll haven't read them yet.

The Seventh Scroll is both modern and ancient and the writing is much better and it flows well.

River God is one of my top three favorite books. The beginning is a bit slow but it speeds up, at least for me it did, its got romance, adventure, i even laughed at some parts. I liked the rest of series as well, though they veer off from the story in the first book.
I have read almost all of Wilbur Smith's books, he writes about the same in all of them but after one or two you get used to the writing and the books are more enjoyable. You just have to pick a good one to start with.
