Hello - thanks for creating this group. I'm a new immigrant to Canada from the US - and I'm just learning about/beginning to focus on Canadian authors/books. I'm sure everyone (whatever "everyone" means) knows about the "CBC Canada Reads 2010" list. I found this site that is called "Canada Reads 2010 Independently" that's a response to CBC. http://picklemethis.blogspot.com/2010/01/canada-reads-2010-independently.html
I will read the 2010 list - both CBC and Independent, I hope. And I'm also looking at the Globe and Mail list of 100 books of 2009.

We are very fortunate to have such great authors in Canada. I have begun reading all the Giller prize winners from the latest to the earliest and am in awe again of our Canadian author talent. My favourite from what I've read so far is Joseph Boyden who wrote "Through Black Spruce" and who won the prize in 2008. I have read his earlier book as well. i can't wait to continue my reading down through the list. I am also waiting to read "The Book of Negroes" from another great Canadian author. I have been told that it is excellent.
