Remembering, of course, that one person's 'erotic' is another's 'eurggh' and another's 'Huh?', the only way of finding what YOU like is by experimentation. On LT, look for people with a significant element of erotica - not easy, and there are few of us! Their listings may give a clue. The presence of LT reviews may help give the 'flavour', but there are precious few reviews, regrettably.

I hate to say it, though, but Amazon remains the best way, and you could well end up sourcing stuff from them, since it isn't easy to find in shops. It's possible to search on 'erotica', although finding your way to that procedure isn't always easy, and there's the same problem as on LT with finding adequate descriptive material. eBay is another route to explore (search 'erotica' in books and magazines).

Not easy, but with dedication ...
.

Keep in mind the working definitions of 'Erotica' vs. 'Porn'. 'Erotica' is written by women, and 'Porn' is written by men.

My favourite Erotica book would be Quiver by Tobsha Learner. These are all short stories that are set in the contemporary. Tobsha is a fellow Australian young woman who has a vidid imagination. She has also written less erotic books so beware when looking at her other titles. Quiver was one of her first and in my mind her best.

Erotica can very well be written by a man.Like the introduction to that John Travolta movie where the sperms are trying to find the egg, describing sexual acts contains imagery and imagination.Knowing how perfume is made and where musk is found...

Hi there,
Just joined LibraryThing about a week ago, came over from Goodreads, am slowly finding my way around, and stumbled onto this group. Thought I'd use this thread to say hi!
I like my erotica novels to have good writing, interesting characters and a good plot. My favorite authors so far would be Cherise Sinclair's (liked Master of the Mountain a lot) and Kitty Thomas (Guilty Pleasures for example).
Well, see you around maybe, happy reading in the meantime!

Welcome to the group Bluerabella! You'll find the Erotica gang a very friendly, supportive, and extremely knowledgeable group of people. I'd suggest reading some of the other threads on this group to get a feel for the place.
And then post! There just hasn't been enough happening in this group lately!

Again, welcome, Bluerabella. I suspect, from the books you have mentioned, that your taste is in what I'd call the mildly erotic. There's a very broad spectrum out there. Do you find much erotica is extreme? Perhaps you'd like to tell us which part of the spectrum floats your boat ...

I hope you can contribute. I suspect that erotica scares many people, who watch what others think, but don't like to show their hand!

Best wishes.

I'm also new to LT but I love erotica. Not that my list looks like it but I do read it and enjoy. So far I've only posted what I've read since I joined. I read a wide variety of books. Currently I'm reading Dirty Laundry by Rhys Ford which is m/m romance and The Story of X by A. J. Molloy (only started this one so I'm not sure how to label it yet.)

Hi groovykinda, CliffordDorset and Sheila1957! Pleased to meet you.

This group seemed so quiet that it actually scared me a little from starting a conversation. What's the point of mumbling to one's self after all, other than to make people believe there's something wrong with you and the straightjackets should be kept close at hand. ;)

But okay, I'll take the plunge. Just hope the water doesn't turn out freezing.

I took a quick peek at your library, saw that you liked Dirty Laundry. How are you enjoying The Story of X so far? I saw some negative comments on Amazon as to writing style?

I'll open a new coversation on the topic of current reads.

Hi, group!
I've been using LibraryThing for eight years now but for most of that time I've been very serious: obsessive-compulsive librarian type stuff.
But I recently decided to explore more the social side of LT, which I'd been ignoring for no good reason.
And as for erotica porn, I've been reading that since puberty. One of my few regrets in life: I wish that I still had some of the paperbacks that I owned as a teenager. I don't know where they went – surely I didn't throw them away ? – but I'd really like now to have a chance to revisit these fantasies of old ...

Hi DouglasAtEik, pleased to meet you!
Those old books, my guess is that they're at the same place as where the second sock goes to, and where the spare coathangers come from.

I've been fortunate in that I still have most of my erotica from the old days, and every now and again I'll round out my collection courtesy of the internet.
I just ordered a trashy looking classic from the 70's: Turn Me On. Great cover; we'll see if it's any good.
And welcome Bluerabella, Sheila1957, and DouglasAtEik!
Let's see if we can beathe some more life into this thread.
I mean, "breathe." Sheesh.

breathe or beat? - sorry couldn't resist... :P
Anyway, 100% support for the sentiment.

That cover - never thought of Ken doll in that particular way, I have to confess... LOL

I did like Dirty Laundry but wish I would have read the earlier books first since she makes reference to characters/events in the first two books. I haven't gotten very far in The Story of X. I've been busy reading books I've won in the Membership Giveaway. Love those free books.
