I have been lax in checking my groups lately but today at lunch I found Adventures in the Rocky Mountains great vintage travel writing by Isabella Bird and it looks like there is a whole Penguin series.
Has anyone else found/read these? It looked like they have some great titles and I loved the cover art.

I have read one of the The Cobra's Heart by Ryszard Kapuscinski and it was very good.

I first discovered the one by Mary Kingsley The Congo and the Cameroons and quickly became a fan both of Mary Kingsley and this whole series. The series is excellent and I can heartily recommend them all, but be aware it will invariably mean that you will want to buy the complete book after reading the extract and as there are twenty books in the series ....

The books in the picture look thin - are they abridgments / excerpts? Usually older travel accounts are pretty long -- and would not suffer from modern editorial cuts!

Oh, wow! I found one of these at my Friends of the Library booksale last week! I'd never even heard of them before.
The one I picked up looks good:
In the Heart of the Amazon Forest by Henry Walter Bates.
