I have a son who is going to be 5 very soon. For the last month he has had me reading christmas books. I was wondering if anyone knew of any halloween or thanksgiving stories that i could get from the library.

The Runaway Pumpkin by Kevin Lewis. It's good for both Halloween and Thanksgiving. It's funny with a great rhythm for reading out loud.

My 5 year old daughter enjoys the Halloween books about Clifford, Bear in the Big Blue House - Bear's Trick-or-Treat, The Berenstain Bears Trick or Treat and Dora's The Halloween Cat. Also, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is a great book as well as TV show. Your son might be a little old for Mouse's First Halloween but it is a fun story.
Not too many Thanksgiving books come to mind but The Littlest Pilgrim is cute. The Charlie Brown Thanksgiving story is good too.
I'll add to the list if I can think of any more...

Squanto and the Miracle of Thanksgiving by Eric Metaxas and Samuel Eaton's Day by Kate Waters are good Thanksgiving books.

I do recommend An Orange for Frankie by Patricia Polacco for Christmas. It my be a little much for your son-read it first. Its a tear jerker, but a beautfiul story.

I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie is a funny Thanksgiving book. The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything is a funny Halloween book. If he's a fan of Goodnight Moon, he might enjoy Goodnight Goon, not actually a Halloween book, but spooky fun, nonetheless.

I love the idea of I Beg Your Pardon: The Tale of a Jerky Turkey by Justin Shady

The story of a barn yard bully who gets chosen to be the White House turkey. He gets pardoned by the President, but having come beak-to-beak with his own mortality, returns to the farm a changed turkey.

I believe it's released on the 15th of November, so it may be one to watch for.
