I just joined this group and voted in your poll. Exactly how are your discussions organized? I loved your selections.

About me (in case anyone is interested):
I'm a 35 year old mom-of-3 living in the East Bay Area, CA. I work in science and engineering management, but reading, cooking, and running/biking/all exercise are my passions. My favorite authors include Faulkner, Steinbeck, Nabokov, Woolf, and many others. I am a member of "The Bookies" but would also like to read some more challenging and older books than they select. I'm also on bookmooch http://bookmooch.com/m/inventory/technodiabla

I'm looking forward to many lively discussions!

Hi technodiabla, and welcome!

We're more disorganised than organised. :) You are just in time to join in with voting for our next reading choices - go to http://www.librarything.com/topic/73344 for the discussion. (You just missed out on the nomination phase.)

It's a bit of a free-for-all (we got to nominate two, but second as many as we liked, and all books that got seconded are eligible for voting, and you can vote for up to three books), but once voting is complete we will have two books to read, and we read them sequentially. NO particular timeframe (I'm still hoping to contribute to the last two reads!). Once the books are chosen, the person who first nominated them will set up some threads - we usually break the book down into chapters or sections, about 3-5 in total (depending on the book), and then you can join in the discussion however/whenever you like.

Currently we're picking two books at a time, because otherwise all our time was being taken up with discussion over which books to chose - the voting process can take a while, and was wearying some of the longer-term contributors.

You don't *need* to join in on any reads or discussion, it's entirely up to you (and whether you can source the book, although most of them have been well known enough that it shouldn't be a problem).

And everything above is completely subject to change with or without notice. :)

Well done, wookie! Welcome technodiabla! Yes, 'organized' is a bit of a myth here! Although, we're getting better. It's only taken two years.

Hello everyone.
I am a newbie here also, as of last evening. I just came across the group and thought it would be a good fit for me.

teelgee and wookiebender & others; you have done a good job explaining the group and how it works, the voting, seconding, and finalization of books process, etc.
I can't wait to see which books are chosen but I think I will be happy to read any that were on the "vote" list.

Thanks for all your efforts. Some of us got here at the right time. The work is all done. We can just kick back, read and enjoy ourselves and the rest of you.

Hi Belva, and welcome! I agree, I'll be happy to read any on the list! The front-runner I haven't heard of, I'm sad to say, but I'll be happy to plug that gaping hole in my literary knowledge. :)

I stumbled on this group read by accident. So sorry it didn't happen before you had good choices from my tbr pile...
I'll jump on the selection now, thanks and see you around.

Where has everybody gone? I keep checking and am beginning to feel so forlorn and all alone. :-(

I know, but no one was chatting so I was lonely!~! hee hee. No life w/o a computer, you know.
I voted yesterday as soon as I saw it come up. Guess I will wander over and see how it was going. There were 3 yesterday that were pretty close.
Thanks for coming back to me. It comforted my "ego/id". :->

We could meet at 'The Group Reads Coffeehouse':

It seems like no one has visited it since October
