Also: Capitol Rock is a good source, if you're interested in the DC rock and roll scene from the 50s through the early 80s.

a high school friend (and all state drummer) subbed for the British Walkers every now and again when, for one reason or another, they needed a drummer at the last minute. I grew up in NoVA - first shows were Country Joe & the Fish at Columbia, Md and then...the Turtles at the Alexandria Roller Rink. Does Capitol Rock talk about "the subterranean sound experience"? - as far as i knew the first "underground" station in the DC area.

Are the Fallen Angels mentioned?

I believe Opsasnick devotes some space to The Fallen Angels in his book; I'll have to check on the rest (and I need to check on The English Setters, a great "punk" sounding band that included Punky Meadows, later of The Cherry People and Angel). I have a couple Fallen Angels lps - and some singles by The Mad Hatters (pre-Fallen Angels - a rougher and louder incarnation); I have been trying to pick up as much as I can by bands from that time period (and from the 50s) from Virginia nd the DC-MD area.

Where in NoVA did you grow up, by the way? I was in Vienna when it was still an extended pasture.

I went to HS @ Groveton - off of Rt 1 between Alexandria and Belvoir 1964-68 (then off to W&M). Even our development, Hollin Hills, was semi-rural when i was in jr and the first couple of yrs of Sr High - then, in short order - the farms that bounded our lot disappeared w/out a trace. By the time i left for grad school in Chapel Hill, most of Fairfax county farmland was history. Now, over the last 15 yrs, esp., we've been watching the same "development" sequence play out in the Research Triangle Park area. Sigh. Groveton got absorbed into our main rival, Ft Hunt - and then both schools disappeared into some sort of mega consolidation. My younger brother played horn w/ a couple of DC based soul bands in the late 60s. I've been looking for my copy of the Fallen Angels LP and haven't found it yet in the warren that is our home.
