I have a long flight coming up and I'm still undecided what books to take with me. Has anyone read Richard Ford's Independence Day and can they recommend it? I would hate to be on a 14 hour flight only to find I don't like the book (though I do plan on putting a back up book in my carry on).

I took a chance and went on board with Independence Day. Bad choice. The book is about a divorced man trying to reconnect with his family, particularly his son but it went into too much detail about things I just couldn't have cared less about: real estate, his clients, his life. It was a chore to read so I quickly got out my just-in-case book Waiting and read that. Waiting is a terrific read. When I got home I forced myself to finish Independence Day afterall it did win a Pulitizer. Unfortunately, it was not the book for me.
