Hello from icy Annapolis:
I thought I should cross post this entry here in case it hits a nerve with any of you or if someone might have a title of interest I've overlooked. Cheers, A
In the coming year Osprey will publish another New Vanguard volume: Kriegsmarine Auxiliary Cruisers. Ever since studying the CSS Alabama as a boy and enjoying Life magazine's WWI edition that included tales of SMS Wolf and the Seeadler I've been hooked on the subject. I follow the Confederate raiders (Ralphael Semmes' Alabama) and the German raiders of WWI and WWII. In WWI Germany employed regular surface warships (SMS Emden & Königsberg) as well as disguised auxiliary merchant cruisers (SMS Wolf, Möwe & the famous Seeadler); they repeated this in WWII with regular fleet units (Bismarck & Graf Spee) and with specialized merchant cruisers (Pinguin, Thor and the Atlantis). Atlantis by the way was the subject of a 50s movie "Under Ten Flags"' - which did NOT sweep the Oscars! The adventures of these ships and their opponents really make for some incredibly fascinating reading. Take a look at my library under the RAIDER tag --you might find a title of interest.

Here's a new one just out now: 'OPERATION KRONSTADT, which is about a high-speed boat raid on the Russian fortress of Kronstadt near St. Petersburg, after the Bolshevik revolution, with the intention of rescuing a British Intelligence Agent and sinking or damaging several Russian warships. It was successful and is a long story.
