Apparently there are a couple books that include the contents of Washington's library, Worthington Chauncey Ford's Inventory of the Contents of Mount Vernon and A catalogue of the Washington collection in the Boston Athenæum.
So, for the future, here is one of President Washington's books, the four volume Gil Blas sold this last week by Sotheby's. It also gives the provenance of the other three volumes.

From the auction record, it seems that Lane's Inventory of Washington's Library may be part of the Boston Athenæum catalogue, as one William Coolidge Lane is included as an author.

Yup, hold up on him, plans are in the works to collaborate on this with the Athenaeum and other institutions. More on this as soon as I get the project plan drafted!

75 years ago someone donated some of George Washington's books to Scotland. They are sending them back home to Mt. Vernon.

Ah, neat. Just updated the record in his library (but, in emailing with Mount Vernon to see which copy this was, am informed that the NLS is just loaning the volumes for temporary display).
