Ah, I went into the original shop, my first time. I have only been to the Kensington shop previously. Anyway, all was a buzz with excitement and it was rather crowded and chaotic as there were women there stuffing envelopes with the new biannually and catalogue. And guess who is quoted in it??? Lyzzybee!!!
I had a lovely little grey persephone tote bag, given to me by my work colleagues along with three book tokens to spend. I chose:
Daddy's gone a-hunting by Penelope Mortimer
Cheerful weather for the wedding by Julia Strachey
Round about a pound a week by Maud Pember Reeves
And off I happily trotted home!

Heather, Glad you had such a rewarding visit. Can't wait to get my biannual in the post to read LizzyBee's quote. Good choice of books.

Congratulations, LizzyBee ! It's funny to think of Nicola reading this board. Hi, Nicola ! :)
I hope I'll receive mine shortly as well, I can't wait ! The short story at the end is always such a treat. I hope I'll receive a new catalogue as well, they're always so beautifully put together. Did you see which painting was on the cover of the Biannually ?

Let's see...yes, it's your review of They were Sisters from livejournal.com. ;)

And the cover is Early 1900s Kitchen c/o Bourneville Trust from Nails, Noggins and Newels: an alternative history of every house

I GOT IT ! I got the biannually (plus the catalogue) today - my mom didn't tell me on the phone (I was at school went it came) although she knew I was waiting for the envelope because she wanted it to be a surprise. I haven't had time to peruse either of them, I just jumped up and down and went straight to the computer to share the news :)
My free bookmark is the one for The Country Housewife's book and it's lovely.

Has ANYONE else received their biannually yet!! I'm driving our dear postman crazy!!

Mine came last week, bleu, and I forgot to post! My bookmark is from Round About a Pound a Week by Maud Pember Reeves, a detail from a 1912 sampler.

I am thinking about framing my Persephone bookmarks, arranging them in different formations as the collection grows. Is this too obsessive??

Mine came last week as well.

Is this too obsessive??

Marise, this probably isn't the right group for that question! ;)

Redigeret: nov 20, 2008, 7:28 pm

Christine, I think that is a BRILLIANT idea! I wish Virago would do something of the like as well. To make bookmarks, that is.

Christina, 'obsessive' is our middle name!!!

eta: to clarify!

IT FINALLY ARRIVED! After another email to Rosie, she very kindly sent along the Biannually and Catalogue. I do hope the first copy that it's way, ended up to be treasure to an unknowing person!

The bookmark was Miss Buncle's Book by D. E. Stevenson.

In "From the Blogs" has a snippet from not only lyzzybee but also our danitorres!

When is the next biannually/catalogue due out? End of October, perhaps...?

sep 29, 2009, 4:40 pm

The new books are out on October 22nd and I can't remember if the biannually/catalogue are sent out just before or just after. The next fortnightly letter may mention it. I'm looking forward to my bookmark and to buying To Bed with Grand Music and High Wages.

I pre-ordered High Wages, so it will be interesting to see what turns up in my letter box first; the book or the Biannually :)

I received and read mine today. I was also quoted in the bloggers' reviews section (Paperback Reader) :).

Mine arrived today despite a post strike - I think it's a sign that I should buy some books.

Whoo hoo bunnyb - and there's me (spelled wrong and reviewing NICOLA'S book with what seemed like a normal sounding piece at the time and now looks a bit insane) and Heaven-Ali, and HJElliott!

Yes, we were very well-represented!

I now covet To Bed With Grand Music (no touchstone), High Wages and Manja.

Hurray! Wonder when we'll get our copies over on this side? Can't wait to peruse the biannually and place an order for the new ones!!!

Apparently there is a postal strike in the UK this week...

"October 30th 2009

Dear Persephone Reader,

This is just to let you know that the new Biannually and Catalogue were sent out last week and if they have not arrived already should do so any day. But there is a post strike in the UK, which means that many letters are being delayed. We are sending books out as usual but, again, there will be delays. A good deal of the material is online on our website."

Not just this week - probably next, too. So post is intermittent at best.

On a brighter note, I went into the Shop on Thursday - Nicola Beauman was in there so I met her properly and admitted it was I who wrote the review of her book that appeared in the Biennially!! Had a lovely chat with them all in the shop anyway - and got all the Birmingham folks' Christmas Persephones to and from each other - I just have to forget what I'm getting now!!

>29 LyzzyBee: Sounds like you had a nice time there Lyzzy!

I received Marchioness last week but not High Wages or the Biannually & Catalogue as yet. I will just have to be patient... (and get on with other reading :)

Biannually & Catalogue have arrived. International post wasn't affected I guess.

Mine arrived (in California) today complete with a bookmark from To Bed With Grand Music. I'm aside myself with glee though saving it to read all snuggled in bed this evening.

The post has been very odd from the UK as there are a few items from the Book Depository that have gone astray as well as a Persephone book bag ordered last spring!! Hopefully, the postal strike is cleared soon. We have books to read after all!!!

Mine arrived last week so perhaps they beat the strike by a day or two. I used to work for the British PO and - trust me - the non-personal back log (basically anything in a brown envelope) gets left till last and done as overtime. They figure it's already late so what's a week or two more.
