Just checked out the list and what jumped out at me was the number of children's books in it. A few years ago the ABC (similar to your BBC) conducted a vote for Australia's Top 100 Books. Many of the books are the same just in a different order. For example in Oz Winnie the Pooh was no 92 but in Britain it made the top 10. Our list also contained many more Australian authors. I didn't notice the Bible on the BBC list it was number 3 on the Australian list. By the way, Lord of the Rings was no 1 too with Pride and Prejudice second. Charles Dickens received his only mention for David Copperfield coming in at equal 100th in the Aussie list. What a shame! Do people no longer make the effort to read Dickens?

I agree! Can a great author become TOO much of a household name? Maybe everyone just assumes Dickens is a given.... and you know what happens when people assume things....
