Guys, rent The Orphanage if you haven't already

The Orphanage was great! An old fashioned haunted house story with no CGI and no teenagers. Heavy atmosphere and no real gotcha! moments, yet very creepy. The antithesis of what so many scary movies have been lately (though I like those too).

Those Spaniards have been putting out some terrific genre movies. (It's subtitled for those put off by that. But then what are you doing here if you don't like reading?)

If it matters, del Toro didn't actually direct this one. He's a producer only.

Funny you should mention The Orphanage; it's in my to-be-watched pile on my TV. It's good to see there are other people who like to watch foreign horror movies, too. :) I can't say that I liked The Devil's Backbone, though. It's been too many years, and if I remember right, I watched the entire thing in fast forward and still figured out what happened without the subtitles. But I did like del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth.

I kept thinking of The Others as we watched The Orphanage. The stories are completely different. Just the mood was similar.

To anyone else that has seen both, can you see where I'm coming from?

I haven't seen 'The Orphanage' but 'The Others' was very creepy. Loved it.

Ok I watched The Orphanage earlier and can see how you liken it to The Others (which I loved even though I hate Nicole Kidman) it's a quiet creepy.

I did, I'm recouping from a surgery so quiet creepy was just what the doctor ordered. It had great atmosphere and the storyline was pretty cool.
