Works and Series

Good day. Been reading through WikiThing regarding series and works and I am confused. In my library, I have some books by the same publisher (Hemkunt Press) that seem to be part of a series "Stories from Sikh History". Each book is numbered, for example:

Stories from Sikh History: Book 1 (Guru Nanak Dev) - https://www.librarything.com/work/25078467/book/186426263
Stories from Sikh History: Book 3 (Guru Har Gobind, Guru Har Rai, Guru Harkrishan, Guru Tegh Bahadur) - https://www.librarything.com/work/25078467/details/186426810
Stories from Sikh History: Book 4 (Guru Gobind Singh) - https://www.librarything.com/work/25078467/details/187224177
Stories from Sikh History: Book 5 (Sikh Martyrs) - https://www.librarything.com/work/25078467/details/187230560
Stories from Sikh History: Book 6 (Bandha Singh Bahadur) - https://www.librarything.com/work/25078467/details/187234060
Stories from Sikh History: Book 7 (Maharaja Ranjit Singh & thereafter) - https://www.librarything.com/work/25078467/details/186426861

I am assuming this would be a publisher series? But then I started reading about work relationships and I'm not not sure how these should be entered / classified. Would someone please be able to give me some guidance and/or help me to get these entered correctly?

I think this should be a regular series, but first the works need to be properly sorted. The problem is that the autocombiner stops looking after 20 characters. Your books have all landed in the same work.

Warning. The links above are no longer valid!

OK, sorted. The series is at https://www.librarything.com/nseries/355410/Stories-from-Sikh-History

I will look at this again tomorrow. Right now search won't work properly because of all the combining. Also the covers are a bit weird. This is all normal. It takes time for the computer to get things sorted out.

This is a regular series because all the copies of each work belong to the series. Publishers series are for things like Tom Sawyer that lots of publishers have published in their own series.

It looks now as though everything is caught up. (The one weird cover is from Amazon.)

>4 MarthaJeanne: Very much appreciated and thank you for the explanation, I'll try again next time now that I understand a little better.

You have other things that need fixing.

One place you can find some is https://www.librarything.com/stats/chocorua/workdups

You can see that your 4 volumes of The Encyclopaedia of Sikhism have all been assigned to the same work. That work needs to be separated out, and a series made, as well.

I've now separated out Vol 1 and created a series https://www.librarything.com/nseries/355420/The-Encyclopaedia-of-Sikhism

To continue the work, go to the combined work https://www.librarything.com/work/19642899/186284105. Put it in your workbench (lower right of the work page). Now go to the 'combine works' page. Click on 'separate' after each vol 2 title. They will collect at the top, and you can separate and combine the whole group.

ETA I had a mixup in the series. Now fixed I hope.

>6 MarthaJeanne: Oh wow, I didn't even know that existed. I'm going through and cleaning up some authors in my spare time in the evenings and will add this to my to-do list. Really truly appreciate the explanations and guidance. I'm sometimes overwhelmed with this site, but I'm learning.
