>3 reconditereader: I got it from the library but I think I will see if I can buy it. I have read her Elizabeth Peters books.

Peters' (Mertz') books set in Egpyt are excellent (at least the earlier ones; like all series, I find the later ones not so compelling). They should be as she was an Egyptologist. Her Ph.D. was from the University of Chicago, where she studied at the Oriental Institute.
I'm going to recommend a couple of contemporary works. For fiction, try The Yacoubian Building, by Alaa al-Aswani. For non-fiction, Shelf Life: chronicles of a Cairo bookseller, by Nadia Wassef.

>5 lilithcat: Thanks. I will check my library system. In Minnesota, we have MNLINK so I can request books from libraries in Minnesota including the University of Minnesota.
I bought a book by Barbara Mertz. Temples, Tombs, Hieroglyphs when I was in Cairo.
