The antifascist struggle

As Trump rails against ‘far-left’ fascism, new database shows leftwing attacks have left far fewer people dead than violence by rightwing extremists

(Mind you, it's not just Trump--I find the animus against the left shown by the would-be "moderate" conservatives/right-of-centre liberals/self-described "righteous" Republicans etc. particularly disgusting. Trump and his minions have no conscience, no decency; anyone opposing them ought to.)

‘A false equivalence’

Given the discrepancies between the deadly toll of leftwing and rightwing violence, American law enforcement agencies have long faced criticism for failing to take the threat of white supremacist violence seriously, while at the same time overstating the risks posed by leftwing protesters. After a violent rally in California in 2016, law enforcement officers worked with neo-Nazis to build criminal cases against anti-fascist protesters, while not recommending charges against neo-Nazis for stabbing the anti-fascists.

Antifa activists have been the targets of domestic terror attacks by white supremacists, including in a terror plot early this year, in which law enforcement officials alleged that members of the neo-Nazi group the Base had planned to murder a married couple in Georgia they believed were anti-fascist organizers.

“Antifa is not going around murdering people like rightwing extremists are. It’s a false equivalence,” said Beirich.

#1--Antifa will engage far right groups physically. Antifa will track right wing events--they'll dox Klan members and neo-nazis and paper their neighborhoods so they're neighbors will know who they are and they'll make sure their employers know too.

Antifa does not show up at far right events with guns or knives or lethal weaponry. I've watched youtube videos of a number of these events out of Portland and Seattle going back at least a few years---well before the Floyd protests anyway. I watch the ones put out by alt-right people and their behavior is always curious to me---a number of them will always show up with automatic military grade weapons (as if that is okey-dokey)--they show up with flags galore and they make a point of sucking up to the police and the police tend to really like that.

As much as Trump and numerous conservative shitbirds would like people to believe that Antifa are killers and dangerous thugs---it's simply not true. A lot of those in Antifa consider themselves anarchist but not all by a long shot. They don't set out to kill or seriously maim others. As your chart points out people on the right are a whole different story.

Only Democracy Now gives tribute to the late Ed Asner's leftist engagement... the link starts at the relevant point:

Remembrance Day must be about all those who fought against fascism (Guardian)

It is vital that our narrative reflects the truth. A global soldiers’ coalition won the second world war... the biggest anti-fascist struggle in history... It shouldn’t even be seen as a radical step to reject nationalistic readings of wartime history and recognise that this was a global war in which many nations served a common cause...

Near to what was the main runway is a memorial, a silhouetted outline of the figures of an aircrew made from weathered steel. The names of the 850 men and one woman who died in active service with the squadron are etched into this simple and affecting tribute. A few dilapidated wartime buildings still stand nearby. Wandering through them, in the damp remains of the former guardhouse, I came across a swastika that had been graffitied on the wall. It was a troubling reminder that the values the wartime generation fought for are fragile and, like their memory, worth preserving.
