Upload and LINK option for the Member-Giveaways.

Greetings,

my return to LT is appreciated. Really. But, when ebook and audiobook are mentioned, I think it is a bit clumsy and time-wasting (mutually, time of authors and interested readers, or reviewers), when we must reconnect to learn, who wants a giveaway copy.

I think options to either upload those giveaways, or link to download sites already existent, would be more comforting for the majority of readers and reviewers. Means storing the file on LT, and the registered 5 to 50 recipients can download the files at their leisure.

My goal is no big debate, just a check, IF others would agree to it, as plenty do their own member-giveaways.

Have a wonderful day!

Member Giveaways are not available for books which are generally being given away to all comers, which it sounds like yours are. The idea of MG is that the reviewers get something - a free book that they wouldn't otherwise get for free - in exchange for their review. What you're doing is basically just asking LT to provide you with free publicity and reviews at no cost to yourself. If your books are freely available you could note that via a comment on your profile, or in the Comments field in your catalog.

You could even put the link in the review field of your catalog. Author "self-reviews" are permitted, and shown as such. See for example, the review for my newly-released book here: https://www.librarything.com/work/24456974/reviews/181892798 It has a link to a book trailer, but if I were distributing the text freely online, it could just as easily have linked to the download source.

LT is not intended as a promotional vehicle for authors. There are some designated ghettos where you can confer with other author-LTers about the best way to benefit from the platform, but do be careful about blatant self-promotion. I was an LT user for over a decade before I published my first book, so I like to think I already had a good sense of the culture and protocols here. I am a reader and Thingamabrarian who happens to have written some books, and that sort of ranking of values will generally be more endearing in this venue.

Dear idiot, what I wrote is about storing the file on site, instead of having to mail it to each potential reviewer partaking. Your disrespecting formulations mean, you earn yourself a great: FUCK YOU!

As a new member, perhaps it is worth pointing out that LT is not Twitter or FaceBook, and does not appreciate personal attacks. The 'Flag this message?' link says "LibraryThing prohibits personal attacks, name-calling, commercial solicitation and spam, but not much else."

Editing your original post after the fact to make us look stupid is, in fact, worse than calling us stupid.

No one said member giveaways are not about free books. They are about free books if you follow the rules of MG, one of which is that you are not allowed to offer books on MG that are freely available elsewhere. See the rules: https://wiki.librarything.com/index.php/HelpThing:Er/List#How_do_I_give_away_boo... and http://www.librarything.com/er/profile

Advertising is forbidden on LibraryThing. It is against the terms of service. Perhaps you should have read those.

>8 lilithcat: The terms of service have been pointed out to the member.

>1 AMP1972: I see no reason why LT should waste computer capacity on storing MG books. If coming back and sending copies to the winners is such a burden, then you don't need to participate.
