This probably belongs in the other authors group, but I'm not a member so though I'd put it here for the interest and comments of those authors I do know:

https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/how-do-you-launch-new-book-alan-platt/?trackingId...

(If you CBA to read the link the 5 are: 1 write a good book (series) 2 Stick to a launch plan (budget and time esp latter) 3 connect with target audience 4 go for a big launch 5 Continue working hard )

This is my friend's thoughts on how she's launched her new book (Battle ground - read it it's very good) 5 steps including a lot of work! So far it seems to have been successful, but I'm not quite sure how she's going to keep the momentum going and get the book out beyond 2nd degree contacts. I thought it was interesting how the changes amazon have made effect how authors have to work at getting noticed.

Authors:
How much effort do you put into marketing your books?

Readers: how much notice do you pay to things like blogs tours and newsletters?
My own answer to the latter is almost none.

Hi reading_fox - I think you'll find all authors put a lot of work into promoting their books - even those who are traditionally published. AMS (Amazon) ads, involving yourself in various websites, library talks, having your own website all help to promote your work.
