E-Book System

I noticed in yesterdays TinyCat feature library:
https://blog.librarything.com/main/2019/04/tinycats-april-library-of-the-month-t...
that at the end of the interview they say "What’s your favorite thing about TinyCat? Anything you’d love to add? I really appreciate the service that TinyCat provides because it makes us more accessible for people. I’d like to be able to offer electronic versions of books as well in the future."

Any chance you're thinking of adding an e-book circulation system of some sort? We would so love to offer this to our members, but for our size as far as I've been able to determine overdrive and similar systems are quite far beyond us cost wise.

>1 CtrSacredSciences: While you can absolutely catalog ebooks and keep circulation records for them using TinyCat, we don't have any plans to add a file hosting system that would allow you to upload ebook files directly to TinyCat any time soon.

You may already be aware, but just in case—you can also use the Comments field to post links to your ebooks and electronic resources that are hosted elsewhere. The Comments field on LibraryThing defaults to being labeled "Local notes," but since each library uses that field for something different, you can customize it. Some libraries label that field "Link," for example.

I know this thread is 2 years old at this point, but is this something that TinyCat would consider doing? I would even be willing to pay for this as a premium service if it ever became available.

Alas, this is something pretty far off what we do, so I doubt this will be added. If you have a hosting platform for ebooks like Overdrive, you can include links to those resources on TinyCat's book/detail pages (as mentioned in >2 lorannen:), but that's about it. Apologies for any inconvenience.

When I put a link to am ebook in the Comments field in Librarything, it does not become live. How can I make it live, so it will show up in Tinycat as a live link?

>6 heringk: I don't see any links in any of your Comments in your catalog. Can you give me the book page where you added a link in your "Comments" field?

I put links to open access books in the comments and then usually put them into a collection. If I remember I include the open license as a tag

>6 heringk: You'll need to use a little html code around your link to make it live. I'm not sure how to type it into this text system, it's an "a" wiht pointed brackets to start and "/a" inside pointed brackets to end. I use W3schools to look up any simple code that I don't know. And I keep a list of helpful links in my "notepad" area of LT home. https://www.w3schools.com/html/html_links.asp.
