Collecting the Dark is Rising set

I have Under Sea, Over Stone and just ordered Greenwitch, and would like to acquire the other three in the series. However I’m having a lot of trouble finding them on Abe, BibliotecaLeiro or eBay. I’m in Canada. Wondering if anyone has other sites they could recommend?

I'd save a search on ebay and Abebooks. That way when something goes online there you'll get notified.

You’re on the right sites. They are just not as available as you might wish. Biggest problem is the Dark is Rising. Long sold out and most sought after. Also add Ardis.co.uk to your search list. Lately expensive on the popular titles, but steals on others. And an extensive portfolio which is made up of 99% Folio books.

The Dark Is Rising is very difficult to find. The Grey King and Silver on the Tree are not. Patience is key here; you're on the right track.

Thanks for the tips! Even though I’ve read reviews of the books and am pretty sure I’ll like them, this is definitely an obsessive purchase more than a needed one!

If anyone has a copy they’re interested in selling, please pm me!

I posted it in the Good Deals thread too, but perhaps helpful here. Sorry for the duplicate, but would rather a Devotee be happy than a random. Not affiliated w/ the seller etc etc

Thanks to everyone who offered advice...I ended up completing my set today with a copy of Dark is Rising that I paid $175 USD for...feeling like a huge sucker but I really wanted to complete my set and there weren’t many options in the past few months. Still, this is by far my craziest FS purchase...

>9 CallumR2: It's already above £100. It seems like I have to wait some more time for my missing books.

Patience is all you need. It cannot maintain that level over the long term.

>11 folio_books: Patience is definetely the key. I got for £27 last year, which I think was quite a reasonable price. I have my eBay search active and will wait for better price.

ABE books has multiple copies of four of the five volume set, some of them in Fine and even a few signed by Susan Cooper.

Just search on ABE Books UK putting in 'Susan Cooper' for author and 'Folio Society' for publisher.

I realize this may not be of interest to a lot of devotees here, but the German book club Büchergilde is having a clearance sale of a select amount of Folio Society books, some of which are out of print, including The Dark is Rising for 19 euro. Of course the offer stands only as long as they have them in stock and I don't know how many are left, it could be as little as one.

https://www.buechergilde.de/produkte-neue-navigation-2014/rubriken/folio-aktion....

The caveat being that you can only acquire them by being a member (which comes with the obligation to buy a book every quarter year). I have been subscribed to them for two years for the Folio Society books only and was very happy to snag this book and a few others out of print for very reasonable prices, so I thought I would mention this here.

>16 Roberto23: Crazy prices on Abe for the set - I didn't realise that The Dark Is Rising was so difficult to find. I can't help with these two, but for anyone else, I have a shrink-wrapped duplicate of Under Sea, Over Stone that I'd happily swap for any other children's title that I'm missing.

The only copy of The Dark is Rising on US eBay is mine - I'm in no hurry to part with it (because I would never find a replacement), but I put it up for sale because it is so scarce/valuable that it can replace some of my Covid-caused lost income. Anyone interested should private message (PM) me.

>17 IainFyfe: hey do you still have over sea, under stone? I'm looking for a replacement as the one I got has blank pages with missing texts and page creases as well....

I have Folio Society copies of The Dark is Rising and Over Sea, Under Stone. They don’t have their cases. They’ve never been read. I’m open to selling them.

Any idea what an opened (but never read : like new) The Dark is Rising edition supposed to go for?

Edit: No worries. Found it

I'm searching for the last 2 books (The Grey King and Silver on the Tree) in the folio series. Please let me know if you come across either of these.
Thanks.

To Whom It May Concern:

I have two extra copies of GREY KING.

Also, I purchased the whole set through Better World Books at one time- just last month. Some were older editions and some were more recent. It seemed as though there were plenty

I have an extra copy of "Over sea, under stone"

its missing text on some pages though. I think it was a printing error. Anyways if this doesn't bother anyone i'd gladly sell it free of charge. Would just need to pay postage.
