>1 benjclark: It's sad, to see all the awards that are being auctioned away. I hope that there are things that the family kept.

The books don't start until 296, and I am reminding myself that I'm old, and trying to have *less*, not more. They are, so far, an amazement of riches.

I'd like to know a lot more about the books. There must be more than 15, for pete's sake!

Yes, but ... it's a start.

When my father died, all those awards my father had carefully stored away were of far less interest to me than the articles from when he was working a radar tower built on an active garbage dump. My father was hardly Robin Williams, but I can see his family finding much more important things to keep than his Oscars.

>2 Lyndatrue: >6 prosfilaes: My late husband had a bunch of awards. They were on display when he was living but now they're in a box. Frankly, it depresses me to see them.

>6 prosfilaes: and >7 PhaedraB: You both make a good point. I didn't actually see some of the fancier awards, so perhaps they did keep them. It's not personal, in the way that some mementos are, and I suppose it makes sense to let them go.

When I retired, I had to leave some of the awards I'd received behind. I was sad to do it, but I knew the rules, and wasn't surprised.

It's so hard to lose people, though. As my mother used to say, the hard part about living long is that you lose those you love. She was right. Awards, in the end, are just stuff. I'd like to have Robin back, though.
