Happy rainy Thursday morning, all. I have a conundrum for you!

I joined back on July 15 (I work in a library and my boss was pointing the site out to me), and have been happily adding books to my collection and telling everybody I know about LT. I love it here!

Last night, however, I was looking at my profile and noticed my account is a lifetime one...which I hadn't signed up or paid for. I'm embarrassed to say I hadn't even noticed the different account types...I just signed up and dove in. So unless there was a glitch or mistake, I'm wondering if I got "gifted" a lifetime account and if so, is it possible to learn who did the gifting? Because I'd like to thank that person.

In any event, this is my new favorite web hangout!

#1> did you join up via a Mobile Account? I believe these were privileged with a "lifetime account".

You will have to ask "TIM the Marketer" rather than Tim the Classic scholar and Tim (by world standards - the rather moderate centralist socialist) who is attacked occasionally for being
TOO FAR Left for USA tastes.

No, I was using this very desktop...a secondhand library computer, as it happens. I have not yet gotten into the whole "mobile" thing.

Thank you for your guidance, I will seek Tim. I'll bring coffee. ;)

>1 Tanith1120: It's possible it came as a reward for participation in one of the many events. If you did an easter egg hunt or pirate treasure hunt, they gave away lifetime memberships for guessing a certain number of answers correct.

Buh? I've certainly never seen this, and it's a complete non sequitur here at any rate. Maybe on Pro and Con, but that's not exactly a fair representation of, well, much of anything. (Although I suppose it's become more so, in the past couple years, as the general level of discourse in the country has become more toxic and thus approaching what P&C has always been.)

It's possible it came as a reward for participation in one of the many events. If you did an easter egg hunt or pirate treasure hunt, they gave away lifetime memberships for guessing a certain number of answers correct.

There haven't been any of those events since the OP joined in mid-July, though.

>1 Tanith1120: Did you activate TinyCat for your library, by any chance? Mobile is the most common way accounts are granted free lifetime upgrades these days, but I believe we're still doing that for folks who activate TinyCat, as well. It doesn't look like you've got TinyCat activated on my end, but thought I'd check.

Whatever happened (even if in error), the lifetime membership is yours to keep!

I had not done so, but have since activated it. Oh my...something else I'm going to get lost having fun with.

Your kindness and help is very much appreciated. I'm hoping what I learn here can be applied to my work as well.

Indeed when I came back to LT after some years (without even remembering my password... Luckily i had added some peculiar books, so I could prove it was me) I found my account upgraded by Tim the Philanthropist.

>8 .mau.: There was a security breach in 2011-ish, and as part of an apology Tim upgraded every account created before that point.

At this point if you don't have a lifetime membership, you're the exception.
