Our Story for May - "The Image of Sesphra"

The short story showcased this month is "The Image of Sesphra", which first appeared in Romance Magazine, for October, 1920, with a single illustration by an artist that we so far have not identified. The story is incorporated into Figures of Earth, pp. 234-269, Part Four, The Book of Surcharge, Chapters 27, "They Come to Sargyll"; 28, "How Melicent was Welcomed"; 29, "Sesphra of the Dreams"; and 30, "Farewell to Freydis." (page numbers are from the 1921 first printing)

As of right now the story may be accessed by clicking through from the Story feature on The Silver Stallion homepage: http://www.silverstallion.karkeeweb.com/cabellmain.html

After this story has been replaced by another you can still read it by choosing it from the list of 'Cabell's Contributions to Periodicals: Original Material Sorted by Individual Title' here:

How I missed this story when first posted, I'll never know but can easily imagine. In any case, remedied the oversight today.

Typical of me, I've read Figures of Earth and easily see the link, but don't recall this story specifically in the chapters noted above. I find it is a nice choice for an introduction to Cabell's fiction!

There is of course a different story there right now -- The Candid Footprint -- which was later worked into The Silver Stallion.
