These movies that ruined the reading experience?

Hello,
I'm considering reading Pride and prejudice, but I've watched the movies so many times (even the zombie version) that I wonder if it's not pointless to even go forward with the book. I don't have a problem with knowing the story already but how will I build my own images from the story now that all these images from the movies have been fed to me?
Have you experienced the same thing? Do you always go for the books and then the movies?

One way of seeing this may be: if you've watched the movie versions several times, then in some sense you are into it for something more than the story: the atmosphere, the acting, etc. The book will bring you a different feel than the movie and there's a chance you will enjoy it for the style rather than the story.
I've read La reine Margot after seeing the movie and I did indeed have an image of the characters in my mind, but that did not spoil my enjoyment of the book at all.

I think I liked the book more than the movie so in this cas I'd recommend skipping the movie. :p

>6 chlorine: I see I can buy a DVD of the older movie on Amazon. I am tempted. I saw the movie back in the 90s in a friend's small art-house theater. He made a VHS copy for me somehow so I continued to watch it from time to time. Back then, a "foreign" film with subtitles would have only been show in certain theaters. I think I saw "Germinal" and "The City of Lost Children" and the three "color" films (red, blue and white?) about the same time.
