So we’re going to take Litsy offline for a few hours on Tues, April 3, for scheduled maintenance (server swap, woo!) but fear not! You can commiserate and post placemarkers and whatever else you need to get you through, right here.

This is a great idea- we Littens tend to panic when Litsy is down! Thank you!! Bklover

>2 MisBklover: I really like to have a space that can act as a “stand-in” or “holding pattern” when there’s scheduled downtime especially. We can plan for it, make an occasion of it even :)

There is also a Litsy Goodreads group where you can let people know to Keep Calm whenever Litsy is down.
We can also just READ when technology is on the blink!

>5 elkeo: In theory, yes, but whenever I have time that’s good for nothing BUT reading — at the laundromat, on a plane — I can’t seem to do it! 😋

Still getting used to using Library Thing, maybe this downtime for Litsy will be good practice! I don't use any other social media so Litsy will be missed for those 8 hours. Best do some reading I suppose...😂

Same, I Just signed up to library things and goodreads just yesterday, before I Only used litsy, I Haven't even touched my book for a few days, guess gotta start picking it up lol

I may spend some of that time playing around with my personal library database! My long-term project (that I started years ago) to catalog all of my books on LT is finally making progress again. 😃
FYI, this is 4thhouseontheleft

Ok

12MiraLunaNixon
apr 3, 2018, 2:55 am

And iiiit's down! Where's the panic button 😂 picked up The Magician's Nephew and wouldn't be surprised if I finished it today. What are others reading?

apr 3, 2018, 3:10 am

I'm going to be busier than normal today as kids are off for school holidays - although this does mean that there will be cake at some point in my day ... always a bonus!!
Any reading I do will either be Anne of Green Gables, Children of Blood and Bone or The Gloaming.
Hope the times passes quickly and I'm sure it'll feel like a massive party on Litsy this evening once it's all back up and running.

apr 3, 2018, 3:25 am

It disappeared a whole 6 minutes early ... not that I was watching :-D

I blame LT for acquiring Litsy, leading to my habit-acquisition, leading to my current sense of deprivation ;-)

Good luck with the migration!

15MiraLunaNixon
apr 3, 2018, 4:51 am

ShookBelf Yeah I need to read aome more of Children of Blood and Bone, although I already have 5/6 questions written down for the buddy read and I only planned on doing 3 per section!
klarusu I thought it was 7am GMT but I musn't have taken into account daylight savings, so it must have been 8am instead. I was still able to check it until around then!

16MiraLunaNixon
apr 3, 2018, 4:52 am

Also enjoy the cake! One plus to having the free time from Litsy! 😄
I might make some biscuits!

>12 MiraLunaNixon: Being a slow reader, I'm still working through Good Omens. :)

18MiraLunaNixon
apr 3, 2018, 6:44 am

Oh how are you finding it? It's one of my all time favourites and I try and read it yearly!

19gilroy
apr 3, 2018, 6:59 am

Love the demon, hate the angel. Keep thinking that the angel is written by the author I despise, which makes it easier to read, though I know it isn't the case. But I'm only like 110 pages in. :)

I spent a solid five minutes trying Litsy this morning before I remembered. :P

21MiraLunaNixon
apr 3, 2018, 7:21 am

I keep trying to load it, just to see if by some miracle it's all gone over to the new servers super quick. Only 4 hours left to go 😬

22MiraLunaNixon
apr 3, 2018, 7:22 am

I daren't ask which you do like, as Pratchett and Gaiman are 2 of my favourite authors 😂 it does get better. And I think the demon is made a little bit more likeable than the angel for a reason. Not all Bad Guys are bad guys!

23gilroy
apr 3, 2018, 7:42 am

>22 MiraLunaNixon: I'll just say my first taste of Gaiman was Anansi Boys and it soured me quickly.

24rabbitprincess
apr 3, 2018, 8:00 am

I will spend the Litsy downtime finishing up books and writing reviews. I have a stack of library books due back tomorrow and the day off today :)

25MiraLunaNixon
apr 3, 2018, 8:07 am

Sounds like a perfect day! I wish you speed, hope you get them all finished! 😄

26MiraLunaNixon
apr 3, 2018, 8:08 am

My favourite Gaiman is Ocean at the End of the Lane, followed by Neverwhere. I think because Anasi Boys is a sort of sequel to American Gods is doesn't read well as a stand alone.

27Loverofbooks22
apr 3, 2018, 8:32 am

I’m at work for 12 hours so hopefully it will be up and running by 7pm!!!

28jjwilson61
apr 3, 2018, 9:22 am

>26 MiraLunaNixon: While Anansi Boys and American Gods both have sort of the same premise they don't relate to each other at all. I actually liked Anansi Boys better than American Gods.

How does the LT easter egg hunt work. How do I search for pages. I think I know the answer to clue number one, but how do I go find it. Is it in one of the books, on a talk page, in a group. I'm confused. Anyone figure it out.

30jjwilson61
apr 3, 2018, 9:40 am

>29 LibrarianRyan: Most of them are on tag pages. The easiest way to get to them is to search for the term using the search box in the upper right-hand corner. That takes you to the search page and you can select tags from the list on the left-hand column.

31lesmel
apr 3, 2018, 9:42 am

>29 LibrarianRyan: Search in the upper right corner in the "search site" box. When you get results, you can use the filters along the left side to choose works, authors, tags, etc depending on the answer to the clues. Hoppy hunting...

32MyriadBooks
Redigeret: apr 3, 2018, 9:49 am

>29 LibrarianRyan: You can search through the site in the typical way, via the search bar located in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. So, for this clue, type your guess in the search bar. The search results default to LT 'works', but the results can be refined by selecting from the options to the left.

The solutions to the questions could be a book (work), group, author, tag, location (venue), or other type of page. Once you click through to the correct page, a banner will pop up at the top of page to notify you that solved the clue.

There is a topic dedicated to the egg hunt here: LibraryThing's First Ever Egg Hunt!. Hints to help find clues will be hidden behind spoiler coding; just click on the spoiler text to reveal.

ETA: Oh boy, I was slow typer.

We're still working on it, making progress on some issues. We are not officially up, although you may see the app go up and down.

Took the leap and signed up for LT- BethM on Litsy. It appears to be up right now, but am I understanding that it will go up and down? Doesn't look any different at a cursory glance.

Hi... I am having trouble connecting to litsy when I am on wifi. I have tried restarting my router a few times, turning the phone off and on, and reinstalling the app but it will only work when I using cellular data and won't connect to my wifi. I've tried all combinations of the above. Any suggestions?

53writerlibrarian

Same here tried resetting the router, the modem, the app, the ipad nothing.

We've been doing more research on how to clear the DNS cache on various devices.

iOS
Turn your phone on Airplane mode, leave it there for 10 seconds, and then back on.

Android - 3 things to try:
1. Perform a hard reboot of your phone. The easiest way to do this is to remove the phone's battery. Wait for at least 30 seconds, then replace the battery. The phone will reboot, and upon completing its restart will have an empty DNS cache.
2. Perform a soft reset. While this does not always clear the cache, it is sometimes worth a try.
3. Clear the cache with the browser. In your browser, select More, Select Settings, and then Clear Cache. Click "OK" to complete the process.

Try those and let us know?

We had a great chat with a user last night. We think we have a line on what it is. Pedro will be looking at what we found in the morning.
