Which of the nominated books would you like to see the group reading as a Group Read in February

How To Vote
We have tried other voting systems but I have not been happy with them as not possible or easy to see who is voting for which book (which always interests me), so we are staying with the basic system. Simply leave a post saying which two books you want to vote for and I will keep a regular runnng tally.

1) Each person is allowed two votes but only one vote is allowed for any one book from a member of the group.
2) You do not need to use all votes if you don't want to.
3) If Voting for a book please be willing to read and discuss the book with the group once the Question Master has posted the questions on each section.
4) Votes can be changed anytime up until voting closes.

Voting : Saturday 3rd - Sunday 4th February

The winning book will be read in February.

The descriptions are below to help you choose the two books.

As he edges closer to the truth-and one murder follows another-he confronts a conspiracy that imperils those nearest him and threatens to bring down the monarchy.

Frozen Stiff by Patrick Logan

First a Narcotics Officer in Seattle, then a NYPD Detective, Chase has insight into the workings of some of the most demented minds of our society. Darktown by Thomas Mullen
#1 in the Darktown Series

Description

Responding from pressure on high, the Atlanta police department is forced to hire its first black officers in 1948. The newly minted policemen are met with deep hostility by their white peers and their authority is limited: They can’t arrest white suspects; they can’t drive a squad car; they can’t even use the police headquarters and must instead operate out of the basement of a gym.

When a black woman who was last seen in a car driven by a white man turns up fatally beaten, no one seems to care except for Boggs and Smith, two black cops from vastly different backgrounds. Pressured from all sides, they will risk their jobs, the trust the community has put in them, and even their own safety to investigate her death. Their efforts bring them up against an old-school cop, Dunlow, who has long run the neighborhood like his own, and Dunlow’s young partner, Rakestraw, a young progressive who may or may not be willing to make allies across color lines

An Expert in Murder by Nicola Upson
#1 in the Josephine Tey Series

Description

March 1934. Revered mystery writer Josephine Tey is traveling from Scotland to London for the final week of her celebrated play "Richard of Bordeaux," But joy turns to horror when her arrival coincides with the murder of a young woman she had befriended on the train ride, and Tey quickly finds herself plunged into a mystery as puzzling as any of those in her own works.

Detective Inspector Archie Penrose is convinced that the killing is connected to her play. "Richard of Bordeaux" has been the surprise hit of the season, with pacifist themes that strike a chord in a world still haunted by war. Now, however, it seems that Tey could become the victim of her own success, as her reputation--and even her life--is put at risk.

A second murder confirms Penrose's suspicions that somewhere among this flamboyant theatre set is a ruthless and spiteful killer. Together, Penrose and Tey must confront their own ghosts in search of someone who will stop at nothing.

An Expert in Murder is both a tribute to one of the most enduringly popular writers of crime and a richly atmospheric detective novel in its own right.

Apologies been intensely busy at work the past two weeks. Now have some time to catch up!

Given your suggestions >19 EadieB: >20 Carol420: I recommend we read them in this order :

When Gods Die by C S Harris : February 24th
Darktown by Thomas Mullen : March
Frozen Stiff by Patrick Logan : April

I chose the C S Harris book First as we have already read the first one and don’t want to leave it too long reading the second one or we’ll totally forget what happened!

I asked my library to order Frozen Stiff by Patrick Logan and they won't order it because it's a self-published book. But I can order it on Kindle for $5.99. Just wanted to give heads up to those who want to get it from your library.

My library does have Darktown so no problem with that book.

I asked the library if they could order it before I nominated it and they said they thought they could...key word here being "THOUGHT". I put in the official request this morning and should know when they open at 9:00 if they really can get it. If you want to change it to the one that got the second # of votes or revote (is their such a word?) it's okay with me. If they can order it I will still read the book. Be aware that there is another book by the same title by Annilese Ryan. My library has that one:)

I put Darktown on hold at the library and, wouldn’t you know, it came faster than expected so it’s available. I will get back in the queue for later
