Are there any plans for next year?

Over at the 2018 Category Challenge group, they are starting discussion of CATS, KITs and group reads. I recall that years ago, this group was started to attract and better accommodate people who were not part of the Category Challenge group.

However, I noticed that, since January, only 4 of us have been posting here (forgive me if I'd missed seeing someone else) and all 4 of us are part of the other group too.

Would there be any interest in proposing a HorrorCAT or going for the less official HorrorKIT over at the CC group? It might bring us more participants and give us fresh ideas for monthly themes. People who don't belong to the CC group can still participate in the challenge threads.

Of course, if anyone much prefers we keep the challenge here, then I'm fine with that too. I've not started a personal thread in this group but I know many of you have, and I'll understand if you want to keep the challenge here so that you can keep those threads active. I'll continue to participate either way.

I'd love to do a HorrorKIT if the HorrorCAT doesn't make it. I have threads all over the place and I'd love to decrease for 2018. I plan to keep my horror category for next year anyway.

HorrorCAT was proposed, but didn't get the support just before this group was started.

That being said, I would love to see a HorrorCAT (in my own thread and my own document, I still refer to this one as the HorrorKIT, even though it's its own group)!

As you say, maybe more people might have more ideas for monthly themes, as (I think I mentioned in another thread), I'm starting to have more trouble finding things to fit every month! Now, that could just be because I'm going through the horror books on my tbr faster because of this group!

I went ahead and tossed out the HorrorCAT idea at the 2018 CC CATs thread:

This is just to gauge interest. If you have an opinion about whether we should move or not and haven't replied yet, please still do so. No decisions have been made.

As ThrillerCAT had been proposed over at the CC group, I also suggested a ScaryCAT/ScaredyCAT to cover thriller and horror. I don't know how the rest of you feel about this. I personally am not a purist about the horror genre. I just like scary books. :)

>4 mathgirl40: I was thinking that too to add to the Thriller suggested. I'll go second it.

Just found this thread. I proposed the ThrillerCAT. I too want to continue reading horror next year, but it will be much easier if we can move back to the Category Challenge group to keep up with the threads, I think. My issue is that I have caught up with a lot of my horror backlog and would like to expand to more but related genres, which is why I thought of ThrillerCAT (or ScaredyCAT, which is a better name).

I hope we'll continue in some form. If we have a HorrorKIT or even something more like a Bingo card, I'll gladly participate.

>7 sturlington: I love the name ScaredyCAT and it seems there are a few people (besides us!) who commented that it was a good idea to combine the genres. I guess we'll see once it's compared to the rest of the options.

>5 luvamystery65: >7 sturlington: >8 LibraryCin: I haven't heard any objections to moving back to the Category Challenge, so let's go ahead and do that. It sounds like voting for the CATs will begin soon. If ScaredyCAT doesn't make it as an official CAT, there seems to be enough interest to offer it as a KIT.

I started a thread in the 2018 group to plan a kit: http://www.librarything.com/topic/271191
